Since the beginning of his artistic career Siegbert Hahn has devoted himself to the still life.   The particular charm of these still lifes lies in the composition of object and painted scene.

Firstly he paints the fruits or vegetables life-size.  This gives them a palpable immediacy which is pleasing to the eye.  Secondly, he places the life-size objects in the foreground of a landscape that stretches far back into the distance. Because of the contrast in scale, the vegetables and fruits in the foreground appear monumental.  They seem like a memorial to nature, set up before the eye of the viewer.  The breadth of perspective in the middle- and background makes for a striking immediacy, which brings the foreground palpably close. Thus the fruits and vegetables in the still lifes appear as symbols of nature.
